I decided there weren’t enough gears in my life, so I went out and bought a mechanical watch. Tktktktktktktktktktktktktk...
The guts.
For those interested, the reference number is SNKL23. I picked it up for like $89 on eBay and put it on a cheap leather strap I found on Amazon.
I really have no complaints about this watch. I’ve been looking at Seiko 5s for a long time now, and this one looks great and has only lost a few seconds in the 48 hours I’ve owned it!

I love Seiko 5's. They are an amazing value for the price and seem to handle abuse pretty well. The bands that come with them suck, but you obviously fixed that. I have managed to kill my SNK371 “Speed Racer”, though. The bezel around the date came unglued and jammed up the second hand. I took it apart and got it back together, but now I can’t regulate it to run accurately. It gains about 1 minute per hour and if I slow it down any more it just stops. I put one of those rubber tire tread bands on it that I found on amazon. I think my next purchase might be a less sporty one like yours.

I really want one of those old Speedtimers, but they’re more expensive and I figured I should get a dress watch that I can wear in all situations.
I still might try to get one with my tax returns, assuming nothing goes wrong with the car before then.

Last year on Prime Day Amazon had some really good deals on all sorts of Seikos. You might want to keep an eye out for that later this year.

I bought a 5 military last year, but sadly it was broken when it came in so I had to return it. I can’t wait to be able to buy it again. I have a Seiko quartz chrono that’s more expensive but still outstanding value for money. These guys know what they’re doing!

For sure. Or at least stock up on another strap or two.

Seiko is like the ‘90s Honda of watches.

Exactly. I’m really feeling the lack of torque on my chrono.

I love Seiko automatics, trouble is that they’re quite heavy...

This one weighs almost nothing. It’s only 37mm though, but I’ve never been a fan of huge watches anyway.

Have a 1981 Seiko rectangular dress watch that recently died. I’ve look at 5s as a replacement but vintage ones. They are fine watches in any year.

I’m sorry for your loss. :(

Love my 5, and I’m getting a Seiko Solar Dive watch in the mail later this month from a group buy. The strap will be swapped out to a black NATO band with thin orange stripe.

Wife and I are still talking over how to handle the burial. It was her first gift to me when we met.

That’s a pretty 5. Coincidentally, I ordered my first 5 off of Amazon yesterday, and it arrives tomorrow. I am unusually excited about it, but it’s such a classy watch for only $90, it almost feels like robbery.
